!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
why has boeing and/or GE removed the engine swirls from the GEnx on the 787 and 747-8? I loved it when GE put massive swirls on the massive GE90.

They hate ground crews?

Those blades are a thing of beauty. The swirls were probably removed by some middle manager who thought they were dumb. Or didn’t want to be accused of copying RR.

RR swirls are quite fantastic- they’re yellow! I will say though, the GE fan blades look more special and beautiful

A few years ago I worked with British Airways in YYZ when they started bring the 787-8 in. They had a Boeing engineer on station to help work out all the entry into service problems (the 787 was still new). A few of us asked this very question. He said that because the fan blades are multi-coloured (black/silver) they were no longer needed.
I’ve been working with Icelandair the last few years, and I’ve noticed that 75% of their RR powered 757s don’t have the swirl, yet all their P&W powered 767s do. In fact, every time they overhaul an RB-211 on one of their 757s, it gets this fancy orange fan cone.
